Welcome From the Principal
Welcome to West End!
Our school is committed to providing students with a holistic educational experience utilizing the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program. We strive to provide students with an educational experience that focuses on different approaches to learning. We design learning experiences that are personally relevant for students and we focus on developing global awareness.
Our faculty and staff teach and model the IB learner profile characteristics for our students. We want our students to be balanced, communicators, caring, inquirers, knowledgeable, open-minded, principled, reflective, risk-takers, and thinkers.
At West End, students are empowered to explore their academic and personal interest. In addition to our core academic classes, we offer courses and clubs in world language, music, arts and technology, physical education and health, and engineering and design. We offer athletic and extracurricular programs designed to meet the academic, physical, social, and emotional needs of our students.
Students will leave West End prepared for high school and on track for postsecondary success. They leave with a strong personal identity, a respect for themselves and others, and an understanding of both the local and global context in which they live and learn.
At West End we value the support and feedback of our families and community members. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions. Thank you and welcome to West End. Go Blue Jays!

Excellence in education is what West End Middle School endeavors to achieve. As an International Baccalaureate school, our goal is to awaken the intelligence of students and teach them to recognize relationships between school and the world outside school by combining knowledge, experience, community service and critical observation.
Additionally, we provide students with a high-quality educational program for developing, improving and applying knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the diverse world in which we live. Just a few of our academic offerings include arts, STEM, blended learning and Encore, the district’s program for gifted learners. Students also have many opportunities to develop beyond academics. Among our most popular programs are band, competition math team and lacrosse.
Our beautiful, historic campus sits at the edge of Elmington Park. Designed by Donald Southgate, a prominent Nashville architect, the school's red brick building is one of Nashville’s best examples of Colonial Revival- and Georgian Revival-style architecture. The building has a clock tower that is approximately 150 feet tall and houses a 1,000-pound bell that chimes at the top of each hour.
West End recently underwent a $7.6 million renovation. Well over $1 million was spent on updating the electrical system and the infrastructure for technology, including cameras for safety and Wi-Fi throughout the building. We are currently working to provide a 1:1 student/computer ratio.
