Welcome From the Principal

Dr. Cherish Piche Principal

Dr. Cherish Piche

I am honored to be a part of the Smith Springs Elementary School family and privileged to serve as principal of this amazing school. I have a second grade daughter myself, so my goal is for Smith Springs to be a top-notch school for academic and social-emotional growth just like I would want for my own child. I look forward to working collectively and collaboratively with our students, parents and community members. I want to continue the success of Smith Springs by listening to input from all stakeholders, provide consistent implementation of a rigorous curriculum, and use data to drive decision-making.

School Description

Smith Springs provides a unique opportunity for students in grades Pre-K - 4 to explore, investigate and discover throughout the learning process. Because Smith Springs has one-to-one technology, students are able to gain 21st-century skills through a blended learning format.

Additionally, we provide access to a variety of interactive learning websites, which are adapted for each student’s individual level. Each classroom is also equipped with a ClearTouch panel that allows teachers to present instructional content in an engaging way while also allowing students to interact with new technology.

Smith Springs also benefits from partnerships with YMCA Camp Wijdiwagan and Trevecca University. The staff at Camp Widjiwagan provides extended learning opportunities for our students through hands-on science and history experiences. This has been extremely valuable in allowing students to explore project-based learning in real-world applications. Camp Widjiwagan also provides campground access to Smith Springs for school events and activities.

Having a Trevecca University classroom in our building also has allowed for additional enrichment and support opportunities for students. Undergraduate and graduate students at Trevecca help tutor students individually and in small groups as they also gain instructional skills from classroom teachers. Additionally, graduate students at Trevecca serve in roles as Aspiring Teachers in the classroom. Having Aspiring Teachers allows for two instructors in kindergarten classrooms in order to best meet the needs of all students in the classroom.

Smith Springs offers a range of opportunities for our students in Music, Art, PE and STEM Lab classes, as well as Encore for gifted learners. We also provide after-school activities, such as participation in the debate team or the school musical. Our experienced faculty and staff work together in order for our students to achieve success in all aspects of their education.
