Welcome From the Principal
Welcome to May Werthan Shayne Elementary! I believe every person in the learning community deserves meaningful opportunities to reach their full potential and become their best self academically, emotionally and socially. Our plan for achieving that goal is through
a culture of care for children and adults and academic press, which is fostered by a growth mindset.
I am thankful to be joining a community of learners that includes a dedicated and supportive faculty and staff, parents who are eager and willing to partner with the school and a community of corporate and faith-based partners who provide endless supports and resources to further our vision and meet the needs of every student and family.
As I lead through a lens of integrity, respect, responsibility, servanthood and collaboration, I
will be learning and growing along with you. We are a student-focused community heading toward greatness in making sure every student is growing. Shayne Bright Shining
Stars…becoming your best self while making everyone’s star shine brighter!

Shayne Elementary School offers a safe and nurturing environment for Pre-K through 4th-grade children. We focus on all required state objectives as well as teaching students how to self-regulate and monitor their own learning behaviors through Responsive Classroom techniques. Each student is provided instruction by a qualified teacher who readily accepts the responsibility to deliver the highest-quality instruction possible.
Our teachers emphasize the importance of math and reading in our daily instruction. We strive to challenge students to learn their math facts but also understand the process of mathematical algorithms. Teachers also strive to enhance learning through the use of technology and projects that actively engage the students through inquiry-based teaching. For our gifted students, we offer Encore, and throughout the school students will find a multitude of blended learning opportunities.
Our school welcomes parents to participate in their child's education and strives to partner with parents and community members to achieve the best for all students. Our dads are invited to serve in WATCHD.O.G.S., a nationally recognized volunteer program specifically for dads that allows them to serve as role models for our students.
