Welcome From the Principal
Welcome to Oliver Middle School. At Oliver, we celebrate the individual and collective strengths of our students, and we value student achievement across academics, the arts, and athletics. Our students are widely recognized for successes in and out of the classroom. As a result, Oliver is most notably characterized by a highly engaged student body and boasts many awards and recognitions across these areas.
I have been serving the students of Metro Schools for over 19 years. I previously served as an academy principal at Overton High School. Prior to these roles, I was an academy coach, instructional coach, and classroom teacher. I love working with the students and families at Oliver and look forward to a great 2017-18 school year!
This year and I am excited to be joined by two talented assistant principals, Ms. Hawaya Wilson and Mrs. Molly Sehring. Along with our highly trained and dedicated faculty and staff, we are honored to work with almost 900 students and their families. If you would like to learn more about Oliver Middle School, I personally invite you to go and take a tour and come see the amazing things that are taking place at OMS!

At Oliver Middle School, our diversity is a unique strength. Our student body comprises more than 900 students who represent 37 countries around the world. As a community, we celebrate and embrace one another’s strengths and differences.
Oliver Middle School maintains the highest level of expectations for every child. Through specialized programs like Encore for gifted and talented learners, Cambridge for advanced academics at each grade level, and more, we encourage our students to grow and achieve. In the library, the Limitless Libraries program gives students the opportunity to check out materials from the public library and have them delivered here, while our Battle of the Books is an annual reading contest.
At Oliver Middle School, we guide students to ensure that they have the tools necessary to become productive members of our global society and are prepared for success in high school. To achieve this requires a dedicated staff, and that’s exactly what you’ll find at Oliver Middle School. Many of our teachers can be found early or late at night at the building working on creating lessons and helping supervise after-school events. Achievement is also dependent on the support of our parents: Oliver Middle School boasts a well-organized and active PTA that has an office centrally located inside the school.
Students are certain to find something that interests and engages them at Oliver Middle School. We offer PE, Art, Music, Drama and Chorus as related arts activities, and we offer soccer, football, wrestling, basketball and track for students who are interested in sports. Perhaps our best-known extracurricular is our band program, which regularly performs at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in downtown Nashville.
