Welcome From the Principal
Welcome to Hillwood High School. At Hillwood, we celebrate the individual and collective strengths of our students, and we value student achievement across academics, the arts, and athletics. At Hillwood, our three academies have achieved national model status, and our students are recognized for success in and out of the classroom. Our students receive a positive and meaningful high school experience.
I have been serving the students of Metro Schools for over 20 years. I previously served as the executive principal at Oliver Middle School. Prior to these roles, I was an academy principal, academy coach, instructional coach, and classroom teacher. I am excited to be working with the students and families at Hillwood and look forward to a great 2018-19 school year!
This year and I am joined by four talented academy principals, Ms. Celia Jolly, Mr. Ronald Sparkman, Dr. Danielle Holdren, and Mr. Todd Colicchio. Along with our highly trained and dedicated faculty and staff, we are honored to work with over 1,000 students and their families. If you would like to learn more about Hillwood High School, I personally invite you to take a tour and come see all that is taking place at Hillwood!

Hillwood High School has three career academies: Academy of Art, Design and Communications; the Academy of Business and Hospitality; and the Academy of Health Sciences, all of which have been designated by the National Career Academy Coalition as model programs. Hillwood was the first high school in the district to achieve this recognition.
Students select the career academy in which they will participate in the 8th grade, but do not begin taking courses in the selected academy until their sophomore year. Within each academy, there are multiple pathways in which students are able to focus their studies. Additionally, we offer six nationally recognized industry certification opportunities.
Not only does Hillwood help its students become career ready, it also prepares them for college. Hillwood offers 19 Advanced Placement courses, the most of any zoned school in Nashville, as well as nine dual-credit/dual-enrollment opportunities. One of the reasons Hillwood students are so successful is because of our state-of-the-art facilities, including a newly remodeled culinary arts lab and library equipped with 3-D printer.
Complementing our diverse academic offerings is a range of more than 15 extracurricular activities and 17 varsity sports. Hillwood is the only school in the district with a Basketball Pep Band, our cheerleaders qualified and competed in the national competition, and our band has played in the Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Hillwood Freshman Orientation will take place on Thursday, August 3rd from 1:00-3:00pm. All freshman students and their families are invited to meet the Freshman Academy teachers, visit classrooms, and begin preparing for the new school year!
