Welcome From the Principal
On behalf of the Carter-Lawrence Math and Science Elementary Magnet School Family, we welcome you! Carter Lawrence is a high achieving school with a culture of kindness. We have a committed faculty and staff that celebrates the individuality of every student. We believe that all students can learn and learning should be fun.
I am truly honored to serve in the capacity as the Executive Principal for Carter Lawrence Elementary Magnet. We know that all students learn differently. For this reason, my goal will be to ensure the continued implementation of STEAM. STEAM provides students with a variety of access points to learning through science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Lessons that include components of STEAM foster environments where students are engaged; invited to explore; encouraged to explain their thinking in multiple ways; and connects students’ learning to real-world experiences.
We welcome families to be engaged in the learning process with us. We do believe that students achieve at higher levels when they have the support of their parents/guardians. We hope that you will remain aware of your child’s academic progress by frequently visiting the family portal. Additionally, we invite you to volunteer throughout the school year. There are a variety of opportunities available for you to do so. For more information on how to get involved contact our school’s office.
Thank you in advance for supporting us in preparing our students for the infinite opportunities that await them.
Inquisitive, observant and collaborative help describe the typical student at Carter-Lawrence Math and Science Magnet. Our goal is to provide a challenging, stimulating, exciting and nurturing learning environment where students in grades pre-K through fourth can learn academic skills and develop socially and emotionally.
Our distinguished magnet option, which emphasizes math and science, features a fully operational science lab staffed full-time by a scientist from Vanderbilt University. We also have a fantastic school garden, maintained by students, staff and volunteers, where students can participate in exploratory lessons and research. Classes like P.E., art, library and music help round out the offerings.
To accomplish our mission of raising the achievement of all, we have high expectations for our students. We want them to meet benchmarks, graduate from college and make their communities better. These are lofty goals and ones we believe can only be accomplished with support from our students’ families. We encourage parents to get involved, whether at our monthly family nights, special community partner-sponsored events or through direct involvement with the school and PTO.
