Welcome From the Principal

Dr. Craig Hammond Principal

Dr. Craig Hammond

It is my privilege to welcome you to West End Middle. Since we became an International Baccalaureate World School in 2009, our community has rallied around the ideals and practices that accompany a world-class middle grades education.

Here you will find educators who love students, love school and who teach with passion. Your students will be fulfilled as they engage in challenging academics, physical activity and athletics, fine arts, world languages, social and emotional learning, and a myriad of extracurricular opportunities offered during and after the school day.

Students leave West End fully prepared for high school and on-track for college. They leave knowing who they are and how to interact with and treat one another inside and outside of school.

We value our families and your input. Let us know how we can better serve you. Thank you for your support of our work at West End Middle!

School Description

Excellence in education is what West End Middle Prep endeavors to achieve. As an International Baccalaureate school, our goal is to awaken the intelligence of students and teach them to recognize relationships between school and the world outside school by combining knowledge, experience, community service and critical observation.

Additionally, we provide students with a high-quality educational program for developing, improving and applying knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the diverse world in which we live. Just a few of our academic offerings include arts, STEM, blended learning and Encore, the district’s program for gifted learners. Students also have many opportunities to develop beyond academics. Among our most popular programs are band, competition math team and lacrosse.

Our beautiful, historic campus sits at the edge of Elmington Park. Designed by Donald Southgate, a prominent Nashville architect, the school's red brick building is one of Nashville’s best examples of Colonial Revival- and Georgian Revival-style architecture. The building has a clock tower that is approximately 150 feet tall and houses a 1,000-pound bell that chimes at the top of each hour.

West End recently underwent a $7.6 million renovation. Well over $1 million was spent on updating the electrical system and the infrastructure for technology, including cameras for safety and Wi-Fi throughout the building. We are currently working to provide a 1:1 student/computer ratio.
