Welcome From the Principal
On behalf of our entire staff, I thank you for visiting our website. Tom Joy Elementary is a growing school that has been providing quality education to the East Nashville community for more than 70 years. We are committed to providing a caring and supportive staff and a safe productive learning environment for each child.
Education is a partnership that includes parents, students and our staff. As our partners, I am counting on you to share with us our mission of inspiring our students to achieve at their highest level and build positive community support. We know that learning together and from each other is one of the most powerful ways to learn and build a better place for our students. We value parents’ participation, ideas, suggestions and ways to help Tom Joy be the best elementary school in East Nashville.

At Tom Joy Elementary, we promote lifelong learning through a clear focus on improving student achievement and personal growth. We personalize our instruction to meet the needs of our diverse population, and our goal is to assist every student to make the connection to school, career choices and opportunities. Every day we strive to provide our students an opportunity to apply what they have learned in the classroom to real-life situations.
Many great things happen at Tom Joy Elementary through family and community collaboration. Our school offers programs that enhance Tennessee state standards, including fine arts, music, Reading Recovery Program, Reading Homework Hotline, Reading Clinic, instructional coaches and interventionists, Second Harvest Food Pantry, 21st-century technology in classrooms for teachers and students, as well as Encore for our gifted and talented students. We also have an active PTA that supports our vision and mission statement.
