Welcome From the Principal

Dr. Natalyn Gibbs
Principal

As the principal of Shwab Elementary School, I want to welcome you to our school. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to work with such trained professionals, highly qualified and dedicated staff, wonderful students and supportive parents. This is my fourth year as principal at Shwab, and I am thrilled at the opportunity to get to know all of you and engage in the educational process together. I am an educator who brings a firm commitment to students and families as well as a love of learning and problem solving.

Our faculty and staff are committed to working with students and their families as a team. We believe in knowing each child by “name and need.” Research confirms and we firmly believe that parental involvement in a child’s education can lead to higher levels of academic achievement, positive attitudes and greater maturity and responsibility. I urge you to take part as much as possible in the life of our school. Your assistance as a volunteer would be extremely valuable to our students and faculty, and there are many areas where your help would be greatly appreciated.

School Description

Welcome to Shwab Elementary, where learning is our lifestyle and failure is not an option! Shwab Elementary is a diverse school that welcomes students from a variety of backgrounds. As an enhanced option school, Shwab has an extended day, so we start at 8 a.m., and our students are dismissed at 3:45 p.m. We have enrichment on Fridays when students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of clubs or our popular Positive Behavior Incentive System (PBIS), which allows students to earn Bee Bucks during the week and trade them in for a treat on Friday.

For our gifted students, we offer Encore. We also have Pre-K and Exceptional Education Pre-K classes. Our Related Arts offerings include Art, Music, PE and Technology.

Our curriculum is directly aligned to the Tennessee State Standards. To help each student achieve his or her full potential, the school provides enrichment and intervention support.

Finally, parents love the community that we have intentionally cultivated. We celebrate our parents, teachers, staff and students on Awards Day. We also have school events that are open to families, including our Holiday Party, Thanksgiving Lunch, Valentine Party and end-of-year Talent Show.

Shwab Elementary School is currently reaching out to friends, families and businesses in our community to establish meaningful, long-term partnerships. Currently we have formed a wonderful partnership with LKQ Corporation, which has done many wonderful things for our school and students. They have provided us with new signage, hosted our Holiday Party and Leadership Institute, and much more.

The Charles Davis Foundation has been long-standing partner that has supported Shwab in many facets. In the past, CDF has been generous in helping our families throughout the holidays. In addition, they have contributed toward our student incentive program. We certainly value all their support through the years and this continued partnership.

As a Title I school, we service many children from a high-poverty, high-needs environment. We welcome both volunteers and monetary support. If you are interested in becoming a partner to Shwab Elementary, please call us at 615-262-6725.
