Welcome From the Principal
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to McKissack Middle Prep. Home to approximately 350 students, McKissack is a school where future citizens of our community grow and learn. The McKissack way is exhibited by consistently exercising pride, dignity and respect, which helps ensure success. We are committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment where personalized learning, rigorous academics and 21st-century skills prepare students for the world.
This year, we are encouraging every student to get involved in an extracurricular activity and for parents to re-establish the PTA.

At McKissack Middle Prep, we believe in the concept of “Whole Child, Whole School.” In that spirit, we offer a strong Community Achieves program, an initiative that connects community partners to families in need. Through this district-wide initiative, we focus on four pillars: college readiness, parent engagement, health and wellness, and social services. Our open-door policy gives families access to a variety of programs such as ACT prep, NAZA (Nashville After Zone Alliance), peer mentoring and more.
McKissack Middle provides opportunities for innovative teaching and learning. All students participate in project-based learning. We also offer three high-school credit courses—Integrated Math, Physical Science and Spanish—as well as Encore, the district’s program for gifted learners. Additionally, we make social and emotional learning an integral part of our school.
We have a variety of technology to meet the needs of today's diverse learners. We have more than 330 laptops and 15 Smart Boards. We also offer STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) programs, and our STEM lab will soon be equipped with an interactive television and 3D printer.
