Dr. Debra M. Smith Principal

Dr. Debra M. Smith

My name is Dr. Debra Messenger-Smith, and I am the proud principal of Jones Paideia Elementary Magnet School.

We have many wonderful learning experiences in place for your child here. Our theme is Dream Big, and that’s exactly what we inspire our students to do every day. We also encourage and teach our children to follow directions; so, please be an example for your child by following the rules that have been established by the school.

I welcome you to take a look around and learn more about Jones Paideia and what we offer.

School Description

Jones Paideia Elementary Magnet School offers families a beginning to a quality education. We practice the Paideia philosophy, fostering critical and creative thinking through Socratic seminar, intellectual coaching and mastery of information. Paideia is high-quality education for all to empower students to live up to their potential. Paideia is preparation for a full life by teaching essential skills so students can earn a good living, contribute to our democracy and pursue happiness.

In addition to practicing the Paideia philosophy, our school offers Spanish, Art, PE and Music. Our Music class offers 3rd and 4th grade students the opportunity to participate in Superstars. Jones Paideia has Encore for our gifted and talented students, RTI (Response to Intervention) to improve student learning, exceptional education services, tutoring and more. Meanwhile, balanced Math allows time for student to really explore and discuss math from their point of view, and all students enjoy using our laptop carts to practice reading and language skills and learn about internet safety.

Our school has several popular programs, including the Honey Money Store. Throughout the school year, students have the opportunity to earn Honey Money for making positive choices. Every four to six weeks, the Honey Money Store is open and students may purchase toys, games, school supplies, hats, posters, etc. using the honey money they earned.
