Welcome to Harris-Hillman School. Our school provides services to students with disabilities ages 3-21. Students are placed at Harris-Hillman through an Individual Education Program (IEP). We provide a full range of related services to meet the individual needs of our students, such as speech language service, occupational therapy, physical therapy, nursing service, vision service and hearing service.

Physical education, music, art, computer and library services are offered to each student. We also offer pre-K blended classes that are a mix of students with disabilities and non-disabled peers. Our students have access to a Snoezelen room, wiggle room and a trampoline room, which are all part of our therapy program for our students.

A highly dedicated staff ensures that each student receives the proper care and instruction. We strive to make sure that each student and family member at Harris-Hillman is part of a supportive community. Our Pencil Partners provide many resources to our students and families. Come visit us at Harris-Hillman.

How to Enroll

Harris-Hillman students are normally enrolled by placement or referral.

We also have a blended Pre-K classroom that provides an opportunity for children with special needs to learn along with typical peers.

School Description

Harris-Hillman is a public school serving students with multiple disabilities and dual diagnoses ages 3-22 years who live in Davidson County. A majority of our students require daily nursing care in order to attend school. This care is provided by nurses from the Metro Public Health Department. In addition, we have two pre-kindergarten programs serving 3 and 4 year old children with a variety of special needs as well as some students who are typically developing.

A highly trained and skilled staff of teachers, therapists, support teachers and paraprofessionals offer instruction designed to meet the individual needs of each student. Our programming emphasizes sensory stimulation, gross and fine motor development, acquisition of self-help skills and opportunities for socialization. We have developed a curriculum that provides students with exposure to grade level-appropriate content through literature and modified activities. Additionally, our students participate in art, computer lab, music, physical education, community-based training, field trips, communication/language therapies, physical/occupational therapies, and vision/hearing services.

In short, we believe the students at Harris-Hillman are amazing. A majority of them have multiple disabilities that greatly impact their ability to be independent. Despite that fact, they all have very unique personalities that are nurtured and celebrated during their time here.
