School Description

At Buena Vista Enhanced Option Elementary School, we envision every person in our community to be a learner performing at or above a proficient level. To accomplish this vision, our teachers and staff believe in and practice individualized, blended learning for every scholar. Our teachers study individual data for each student and use that information to strategically plan instruction, measure growth and create meaningful learning experiences within the classrooms. Most of our instruction occurs during targeted, small-group experiences customized for each learner.

All learning experiences within our building are crafted to enthusiastically encourage creativity, innovation, critical thinking, problem-solving and communication skills. These are all essential 21st-century skills that our scholars can use in and outside of the classroom. Through these experiences, scholars will have the opportunity to connect learning to the outside world and build a foundation for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) careers. This work is supported by the use of iPads, iPods, SMARTBoards and student netbooks in each of our classrooms.

Our staff believes in caring holistically for our scholars, our families and our surrounding community. Scholars and their families have access to mental health services through partnerships with STARS, Centerstone and Vanderbilt. Additionally, students can utilize tutoring, mentoring and after-school activities. As a Community Achieves School, Buena Vista families can work with our Community Achieves site coordinator to access services and resources that support and enhance family empowerment.
